Description

UPDATE: This dirigible, and several others, can be seen "flying" in this video of the entire 2013 Steampunk Empire Symposium Dirigible Races: youtu.be/4Q3PJD7Ed6o

These photos were taken during the build of my custom RC (Remote Control) dirigible called "The HammerHead". This is for JUST the Gondola of the dirigible, not picture is the rigging and balloons that the gondola will be suspended under when assembled for flight.

The core ingredient in this build is a small toy grade quad copter, the rest of the gondola was custom built around the quad copter, which will be used to provide the control once the dirigible's helium envelopes are inflated and attached.

The gondola itself is built from various materials including:
Foam Core
Matte Photo Paper
Carbon Fiber Tubing
E-6000 glue
White Glue
Super Glue
A juice bottle cap
random metallic pieces from my bits kit.

Added for style are N-Scale ships crew figures and N-Scale shipping crates and packages.

Spray paint, acrylic model paints and rub-n-buff were also used.

Total weight as shown above is 175 grams. By my calculations, my weight sweet spot is between 158 grams and 223 grams. So I should be good to go once I add the rigging cable and clips with a neutrally buoyant dirigible. (Stays grounded at rest, but lifts off when power is applied to the rotors, and sinks slowly when power is cut)

First flight MAY be a test flight in the next couple of weeks if I have time, otherwise all my engineering will be put to test in front of hundreds of onlookers during the pre-flight set up of the Steampunk Empire Symposium Dirigible Races www.steampunksymposium.com/sym…

It was spectacular to see the Hammerhead fly and briefly talk with you about her.
Truly work well done, sir!
